Stop 4

Skulls were used by both Avonlea and Saddle Butte peoples in constructing the "pounds", or corrals, into which the animals were driven and killed. The skulls were believed to posess spiritual powers and were used in corral building ceremonies.

Notice the large pieces of bone in this exhibit house. This tells the archaeologist that the animals were killed in this area, with large portions of meat being chopped off and taken to the other end of the site for cooking.
